Explore & Score: A WebAR Prototype Built with Niantic 8th Wall

Augmented Reality has the power to transform everyday spaces into interactive experiences, and I recently had the chance to explore this potential through a WebAR prototype.

This project, built with Niantic Studio and powered by 8th Wall, allows players to visit three unique VPS-activated locations. At each spot, users scan the environment with their phone to uncover fun, interactive AR surprises, either lighthearted animations or playful hidden messages. As players explore, they also earn points, making the experience both engaging and rewarding.

Development & Challenges

One of the most exciting aspects of this project was working with VPS (Visual Positioning System) to anchor AR elements to real-world locations. Ensuring a seamless experience required fine-tuning interactions, and Niantic Studio provided the tools needed to simplify development. Along the way, I learned a lot about balancing technical expertise with creative storytelling in AR.

Looking Ahead

This prototype is just the beginning! I hope to expand the experience by adding more locations and new interactive elements. The potential for WebAR in exploration and immersive storytelling  is immense, and I’m excited to continue pushing its possibilities.
